Gemstone Guide
DHARIN MATERIALS & STANDARDS
Discover cultivated sapphires, emeralds and rubies created in controlled environments for vivid colour, lasting beauty and considered traceability.
What Are Cultivated Gemstones?
Cultivated gemstones, also known as lab-grown gemstones, are created in controlled environments that reproduce the conditions in which gemstones form in nature. They are not glass or imitation stones. They share the essential chemical composition, crystal structure and optical properties associated with their corresponding mined gemstone species.
Carefully managed growth allows cultivated gemstones to offer consistent colour and clarity while giving clients a modern alternative for fine jewellery.
Our Cultivated Gemstones
Cultivated Sapphire
Known for rich colour and excellent durability, cultivated sapphire is well suited to rings, earrings, necklaces and jewellery designed for frequent wear.
Cultivated Ruby
Cultivated ruby offers the saturated red colour associated with corundum. Its strength and brilliance make it suitable for statement pieces as well as everyday designs.
Cultivated Emerald
Cultivated emerald is selected for expressive green colour and characteristic visual depth. Because emerald requires more considered care than sapphire or ruby, we recommend protecting it from hard impact and sudden temperature changes.
How We Select Each Stone
DHARIN considers colour, clarity, cut, proportion and how each gemstone performs within the finished design. Our focus is not uniform perfection, but a balanced stone with distinctive colour, pleasing light return and a secure relationship with its setting.
Certificates and Third-Party Verification
Cultivated coloured gemstones are not automatically supplied with an individual IGI certificate. If a client would like an independent third-party inspection or report, this can be arranged on request. All testing, laboratory, shipping and related fees are paid by the buyer.
Certificate availability for diamond jewellery is different: only eligible centre stones of 0.50 carat and above include an individual certificate where this is stated on the product page. Smaller lab-grown diamonds, pavé stones and accent diamonds do not carry individual certificates, but third-party verification may be requested at the buyer’s expense.
Cultivated vs. Mined Gemstones
The primary distinction is origin. Mined gemstones form within the earth and are extracted, while cultivated gemstones are grown under controlled conditions. Appearance varies from stone to stone in both categories, so colour, cut and overall character remain important when choosing a piece.
Gemstone Care
- Store jewellery separately to reduce scratching and impact.
- Avoid chlorine, bleach, harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners.
- Remove jewellery before exercise, swimming or heavy household work.
- Clean gently with lukewarm water, mild soap and a soft brush.
- For emerald jewellery, avoid ultrasonic and steam cleaning unless advised by a professional.
